Orient flight school in Puducherry is one of the pioneering institute in commercial pilot training in India with a large fleet of 13 aircrafts, operating in south India. With about 20 years of experience, they have produced hundreds of pilots till date. Here is a detailed review of OFS, to help our visitors know much about their courses and mission.

About Orient Flight school

As we said, OFS has a good heritage of 20 years in aviation field and they do know what to do.Apart from pilot training courses, they conduct chartered flights too, for small groups of up to 5 people, in their own multi engine jet. They even do aircraft maintenance with their own group of trained AMEs.

CPL Program & other courses

OFS conduct flying courses as PPL, CPL, CPL with multi engine rating, AFI rating etc. However no courses for ATPL and Helicopter license are conducted. Apart from these flying courses, BSc graduation in Aviation is also conducted, which is offered by Hindustan University, which is a UGC approved university. But accreditation of the BSc course varies with state and so please check with your regional Public Service Commission to know whether they approve it or not.

Fee Structure in Orient Flight school

Aircraft fleet in Orient flight school is good but costs 15,000 per hour for even Cessna 152, which is somewhat on a higher side for a 2-seater piston engine aircraft, that too without glass cockpit. This itself makes the course a hefty high in price, costing about 30 lakhs INR for just single engine CPL. Multi engine rating is offered at a fees of 40,000 Rs per hour, which is reasonable. However fluctuations in fuel costs will be reflected in the flying fees as well and so please check with OFS officials before confirming the rates.

Placement & Career

No placement guarantee is given for any courses conducted by Orient flight school. However they offer placement assistance for meritorious students, which is not a top-notch service or feature as we know.

Other Facilities

OFS has its own hostel facility near their campus and they charge another 1,00,000 Rs per year for hostel, including food. This seems reasonable if you are new to the place and not comfortable with regional language- Tamil. However, once you become familiar with the place, you can go for home-stays or rented houses near the training centre, which will cost a little lower than the package.

Student Survey Report

We were able to do an extensive student survey of OFS and it makes this section crucial in this review. None of the students have serious complaints about the academy apart from some short flying halts due to fuel outages and legal issues. Another point we have noted is the safety concern of management. For students it seems somewhat a restriction in free flying at times.
